If you’ve spent any time on skincare TikTok, you’ve probably heard of glass skin: skin so smooth, clear, and glossy it almost looks reflective.
But there’s another Korean skincare concept worth knowing: 속광 (sok-gwang).
Sok means “inside”, and gwang means “glow”. Put them together, and it literally means “glow from within”.
So, what’s the difference?
Glass skin is often associated with what you can see on the surface: that ultra-smooth, almost mirror-like finish. Sok-gwang is less about looking perfectly polished and more about skin that appears deeply hydrated, plump, and naturally luminous.
It’s the kind of glow that doesn’t disappear the moment you wash off your makeup.
How do you get sok-gwang?
The answer is surprisingly simple: hydration, barrier support, and consistency.
Instead of constantly chasing the next trending active, focus on giving your skin what it needs to stay hydrated and comfortable. Layer lightweight hydration, support your skin barrier, and give your routine time to work.
And most importantly, don’t confuse healthy-looking skin with perfect skin.
As a Korean K-Beauty founder, this is one of the ideas I want to share through our K-Beauty 101 series. Korean skincare isn’t just about viral ingredients or a 10-step routine. At its best, it’s about understanding your skin and taking care of it consistently.
Early Skin Longevity
At Skyne, that philosophy is at the heart of what we call Early Skin Longevity: caring for your skin today so it can continue looking and feeling its best over time.
So maybe it’s time to stop chasing perfection.
Glass skin is a look. Sok-gwang is the glow from within.
